Stockholm and Gothenburg are absolutely worth visiting, even if it&#8217;s just for one night or one full day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A great way to experience Sweden, which I strongly recommend, is having a round trip\/road trip, of at least a week, better two. This way, you can experience the cool cities as well as the idyllic little towns with their typically Swedish red houses and other beautiful country- or seaside locations. I will share the best destinations for your route through Sweden further below&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Practical_travel_advice\"><\/span>Practical travel advice<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Things_NOT_to_do_when_you_travel_to_Sweden\"><\/span>Things NOT to do when you travel to Sweden<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Short distance to Swedes when standing in line<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spanking your children even slightly (illegal). Sweden is a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sweden.se\/society\/children-and-young-people-in-sweden\/\" target=\"_blank\">child-friendly country<\/a>. Already in 1979 Sweden became the first country to ban corporal punishment of children. &#8220;<strong>Beating or spanking a child is also a criminal offence<\/strong> according to the Swedish Penal Code&#8221;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expecting cash payment option <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Buying_alcohol_and_drinking_age\"><\/span>Buying alcohol and drinking age<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To buy alcohol&nbsp;<\/strong>that you want to drink in your Swedish cabin or hotel, like wine, spirits and beer with high percentage alcohol (over 3.5%) you have to go to the state-owned alcohol shop&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.systembolaget.se\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Systembolaget<\/strong><\/a>. Also, you have to be&nbsp;<strong>20 years old<\/strong>&nbsp;to buy alcohol at Systembolaget. In bars and restaurants on the other hand:&nbsp;<strong>18<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Currency_in_Sweden_%E2%80%93_Do_I_need_cash_in_Sweden\"><\/span>Currency in Sweden &#8211; Do I need cash in Sweden?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Swedish krona<\/strong><\/em> (svenska kronor). You get around Sweden pretty well with electric payment methods, even without cash in your wallet (personally, I rarely use any cash nowadays). Yet, I&#8217;d recommend you have about 500 SEK in bank notes with you, just in case a card payment processing system might be defect at the time you&#8217;re visiting a caf\u00e9 or bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tipping_in_Sweden_%E2%80%93_How_much\"><\/span>Tipping in Sweden &#8211; How much?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tips are included in the prices.<\/strong> It&#8217;s not uncommon that Swedes don&#8217;t pay any tips in bars and restaurants at all. Waiters and bar keepers won&#8217;t look at you angrily when you just give them the amount that&#8217;s written on the bill. That said, if you found they provided great service, you can show that by giving a tip. (Personally, I pay about 10-20%, or round up the sum when I am very satisfied with the service, but usually only at places where food is served at the table. Same with taxi drivers: Was it a pleasant ride and you had a good conversation, you can give a little extra. Again, it&#8217;s not expected.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.svt.se\/kultur\/nar-ska-man-dricksa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Swedish etiquette expert<\/a>, it is common to leave a tip of about 5\u201315% in restaurants if you are satisfied with the service and the meal.<br \/>At bars \u2013 particularly when ordering drinks \u2013 tipping is generally not expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, tipping in Sweden\u2026 you can do it&#8230; but you certainly don\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_should_I_take_to_Sweden\"><\/span>What should I take to Sweden?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s actually not that much you have to think about, apart from your standard travel equipment like passport etc. When it comes to clothing, in winter, make sure you have a pair of proper winter boots with you that can persist in snowy winter conditions. In summer, when you stay in the country side, you might want to buy mosquito spray in the local pharmacy.
