Hi, my name is Matthias!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think I’ll just answer a couple of questions I regularly get asked when I meet new people in Sweden<\/a>.<\/p>

Who are you?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

My name is Matthias Kamann. When Swedes pronounce my first name it sounds a little like Matteeejjas<\/strong><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where do you live?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I live in a cozy town in the South of Sweden, called Kristianstad. People in Kristianstad speak sk\u00e5nska<\/em> which is a Swedish dialect which Swedes from other regions make fun of. Yet, not as much as about my German accent \ud83d\ude05 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long have you been living in Sweden?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For more than 10 years. Most of these years I have been living in V\u00e4xj\u00f6<\/a>, a beautiful, typically Swedish city in the middle of Sm\u00e5land (check out my post about V\u00e4xj\u00f6’s best places to visit: One day in V\u00e4xj\u00f6 – what to do<\/em><\/a>), but I also lived in Ume\u00e5, Stockholm and Uppsala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How come you ended up in Sweden?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I came to Sweden as an exchange student from Germany. After two years of studies at the university in V\u00e4xj\u00f6 I graduated with a master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Business Administration\/International Marketing. After that, I went to Germany for one year, before moving back to V\u00e4xj\u00f6 again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are you working with?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Apart from running Hej Sweden<\/em>, I’m an entrepreneur working with publishing, writing books and as well as creating graphic design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early 2017, I published the book How to be Swedish – A Quick Guide to Swedishness – In 55 Steps<\/a><\/em>, (here on Amazon<\/a>), in which I summarize my Swedish experiences and countless culture crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n

Do you speak Swedish?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I do. But as soon as I open my mouth Swedes instantly notice that I’m originally from Germany. That German accent is very, very persistent. After all, Swedish sounds as melodic as a happy bird singing on a sunny day in Spring. In contrast to that German sounds monotonous and harsh – according to some Swedes – like a machine.
So, I probably speak some sort of mechanical Swedish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since I’m switching between English (work), German (family and old friends) and Swedish (well, everything else) several times a day, I can proudly claim that I do speak three languages pretty much fluently, but unfortunately none of which perfectly (my German has suffered substantially). So just as my German and Swedish, my English certainly isn’t without flaw. And I’m sure you have already noticed one or more mistakes on this page or any blog posts<\/a> you’ve read before you came here. To be honest, languages were never my strongest subjects in school (by the way neither was math, or physics, or geography, or chemistry, or … well, pretty much any other subject there is).<\/p>\n\n\n
