It has been described as a social institution or even phenomena. Swedish people – often described as distant, calm and unsocial – love their fika. It gives them the opportunity to meet and hang out with friends, get to know new people, check out potential partners or network with business folks.

Fika [ˈfiːˌka]

Fika at work

At many working places, fika is part of the regular daily schedule. In the morning a fika at 10:00 and in the afternoon at 15:00 is not uncommon.

For you sweet little new-Swede, that means two 10 – 30 minutes-extra breaks, called fikarast or fikapaus. When everyone gathers in the meeting room, you better stop working and join the group. One semester turned into more than a decade. In 2011 he started the blog Hej Sweden in order to share his Swedish experiences and love for Sweden and the Swedes with others who are keen to learn more about this beautiful country. One result of his constant attempt to discover what it means to live in Sweden like a typical Swede, is the book How to be Swedish - A Quick Guide to Swedishness - In 55 Steps (here on Amazon, also available in German) For more about Matthias and Hej Sweden, have a look at the About page.
https://www.instagram.com/hejsweden/","https://www.youtube.com/@hejsweden
https://hejsweden.com/en/author/matthias-admin/
https://hejsweden.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/fika-have-a-coffee-How-to-be-Swedish-copy-e1466086908501.jpg
https://hejsweden.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/fika-have-a-coffee-How-to-be-Swedish-copy-e1466086908501.jpg
["GET
