Swedes are humble people. They don’t show off. Or, if they do they do it in a subtle way. Even the rich and successful Swedes, like for example the members of ABBA, are approachable and rarely try display their financial power through material possessions.<\/p>\n

Swedish goals in life<\/h2>\n

In Sweden, people don’t strive to become richest or best at something. They are happy with a few things already.<\/p>\n

As a proper Swede your main goals in life should be: Villa, Volvo, Vovve<\/em>\u00a0(literally: house, Volvo, dog)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Goal #1:\u00a0Villa<\/h3>\n

Let’s start with the house. It doesn’t have to be a biiig house. A small, wooden one already\u00a0does the job. Those houses can be cheap in Sweden, depending on the location, of course. You can buy one for 50.000 Euros, somewhere in the forest.<\/p>\n

Goal #2:\u00a0Volvo<\/h3>\n

To accelerate the integration process in Sweden, good advice would be to drive\u00a0a Volvo.\u00a0To decrease integration speed, particularly in conversations about cars, you should\u00a0mention that Volvo nowadays is owned by a Chinese company. Swedes try not to think about that too much. They rather want their car brands\u00a0to be purely Swedish – just as Swedish as Volvo-ambassador Zlatan.<\/p>

\"Book<\/a><\/div>\n

Volvos are considered reasonable cars: appealing looks, solid, safety-oriented, not showing off too much. Just like Swedes – when they\u2019re sober<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Swedes consider Volvo as the safe choice. No one can turn up one’s nose when you tell them you drive a Volvo V70 or V90. It\u2019s the car everyone can drive – it’s classless in Sweden. Teachers, plumbers, architects and royals\u00a0alike. No one looks over- or underdressed in a Volvo – at least not in Sweden.<\/p>\n

You drive a Volvo in Sweden, you\u2019ll never have to explain why you made this choice over another car.<\/p>\n

Now, if you really don\u2019t want to drive a Volvo, show some respect to the taste of Swedes, at least get a kombi<\/em>\u00a0(estate wagon) from another manufacturer.
\nIf you don’t like a Volvo, then consider buying a Saab kombi. Any\u00a0other, more fancy\u00a0brand\u00a0can be perceived\u00a0as offensive by average neighbors if you’re living outside the center of Stockholm.<\/p>\n

‘Why not a sports car?<\/strong>‘ you wonder. Well you can have one, but it\u2019ll make it even more difficult for your neighbor to invite you over to the next BBQ. He just doesn\u2019t want to feel boring, standing next to you, having to explain the benefits of having a hitch and lots of space in the trunk. And thereby justifying his buying decision and lifestyle choice.<\/p>\n

Goal #2: Vovve<\/h3>\n

Get a proper dog. One that cats don’t laugh about. Can Chihuahuas be considered ‘real dogs’?<\/p>\n

The top three most popular dogs in Sweden are:<\/p>\n

  1. Labrador retriever<\/li>\n
  2. Sch\u00e4fer (German Shepherd)<\/li>\n
  3. Golden retriever<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You should also consider giving your dog a typical Swedish dog name. The most popular names\u00a0for dogs in Sweden:\u00a0Molly<\/em> for her and Ludde<\/em> for him.<\/p>\n

    Villa Volvo Vovve<\/h2>\n

    Now, if you’ve checked all boxes of your ‘life-goal-to-do-list’,\u00a0you can put your Ludde or Molly\u00a0in the trunk of your Volvo estate car\u00a0or\u00a0play with him or her\u00a0in the backyard of your Swedish house.<\/p>\n
