Swedes take their work very seriously. They come in time. They leave in time. To get some recover\u00a0from a stressful workweek some Swedish people decided to introduce a relaxing\u00a0activity on Fridays, called\u00a0fredagsmys<\/em>,\u00a0literally “Friday cosiness”.<\/p>\n

How to fredagsmys<\/em><\/h2>\n

Ideally a fredagsmys<\/em>\u00a0happens right after having taccos for dinner. Having taccos for dinner is called a\u00a0tacco kv\u00e4ll<\/em>, “tacco evening”. Which\u00a0is a great compromise if two people in a relationship\u00a0won’t able to agree whether to eat pizza or sushi that evening.<\/p>\n

Finding the right food for a (hopefully) romantic and relaxing Friday tends to be\u00a0less difficult than finding a TV show or movie both parts agree on. Not too long ago, you could observe\u00a0Swedish couples standing in front of a shelve at\u00a0Hemmakv\u00e4ll<\/em> (DVD rental) and hear\u00a0an annoyed man saying to a\u00a0woman “You said I can decide” after she replied to all\u00a0his suggestions with a “N\u00e4\u00e4\u00e4h<\/em>“. Nowadays, these discussions have moved to the sofa, from where\u00a0Swedes\u00a0just download or stream.<\/p>\n

Fredagsmys snacks<\/h3>\n

Important: Don\u2019t forget some crunchy snacks! Chips are widely associated with\u00a0a Fredagsmys<\/em> in Sweden. Rumor has it that a chips producer (OLW) came up with the idea of fredagsmys<\/em> to promote their snacks.\u00a0Their TV advertisement was underlined with a catchy melody\u00a0that every Swedes knows “Nu \u00e4r det freeedagsmyyys… “. Just ask a Swede and they will hum it for you (with slight embarrassment).<\/p>
