\"Avoid<\/a><\/p>\n

Sweden is a large country.\u00a0When you drive longer distances on a Swedish\u00a0highway you will notice high fences along the road.<\/p>\n

Those\u00a0fences are\u00a0not only there to prevent wild going hunters from unexpectedly crossing the road but also to keep moose from taking a free ride on the bonnet of your\u00a0car.<\/p>\n

(Un-) popular\u00a0Swedish moose<\/h2>\n

Sweden has the highest density of moose per square meter, in the world.\u00a0But Swedes are not as fond of their national animal at all.<\/p>\n

When a moose crosses a street in front of a Swedish driver, the Swede does everything possible to avoid a crash. Germans on the other hand want to crash into one, so they can bring home the horn as a souvenir, which is considered much cooler than just a stolen\u00a0moose-warning street sign.<\/p>

Moose safari<\/h3>\n

For those tourists with no luck bumping into an \u00e4lg<\/em> on open roads, Swedes created Moose Safaris to satisfy tourists’ need for taking pictures of these horny animals in a less dangerous environment. It\u2019s a bit like the Swedish way of having a Jurassic Park, except the main attraction is walking around both inside and outside the fences.<\/p>\n

Dangerous\u00a0moose<\/h3>\n

Crashing into a moose is life threatening. Their hight and weight can cause serious damage to cars and their passengers. It’s recommended to drive around a moose instead of trying to drive right through it – as recommended with a deer or wild pig.<\/p>\n

The moose is the biggest land animal in Europe, alongside the polar bear<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Also, if you go for a walk in the wild and see a moose, keep some safety distance! Although they are usually a bit shy, they might attack you in order to protect their\u00a0little calves.<\/p>\n

Lots of moose<\/h3>\n

There are about\u00a0300 000 moose in Sweden, until autumn<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Since moose are very reproductive, Swedes organize a yearly \u00e4lgjakt,<\/em>\u00a0moose hunt. About 50% of the \u00e4lg-population is then getting shot. And about 0,0015% of all Swedish hunters.<\/p>\n

Drunk moose<\/h3>\n

Moose have almost the same desire for alcohol as Swedes. Since moose are not welcome in bars and nightclubs, their only option to get drunk is eating\u00a0fermented\u00a0apples.
