If you have met a couple of Swedish people before, you might have noticed that many Swedish names are different from names in other countries, and sometimes even sounding rather extraordinary.

Here are a few common names in Sweden that might sound special to the non-Nordic ear:
Girls: Ebba, Edda, Freja, Lo or Tove.
Some Swedish boys are called Albin, Alvin, Sixten, Loke or Åke.

Some names may sound very beautiful, some may sound rather weird for non-Swedes. (I still find it a little confusing that some Swedish men are called “Love”, yes “L O V E”, but it’s not pronounced like you might suspect reading it in English, instead it’s pronounced “Loohwaeh”.)
