Popular Swedish Names for Girls and Boys in 2017
If you have met a couple of Swedish people before, you might have noticed that the Swedish names are different from names in other countries, and partly even rather extraordinary. For example, common names for girls in Sweden can be Linnéa, Ebba or Tove. Swedish boys can be called Albin, Sixten or Åke. Some names may sound very beautiful, some may sound rather weird for non-Swedes.

The Swedish Statistiska centralbyrån (SCB) published this list with the names for boys and girls which Swedish parents have given their children in 2017.

Is Malin a girl’s name or s boy’s name?
Please help by informing me.
Thanks ??
Hej Mehrdad! Malin is a name that is mostly given to girls.
You really need to have the Swedish alphabet. The boys name Love is actually Löve. Completely different word!!
No, there is no Löve in Sweden. Never heard of anyone called Löve, but I bet there is someone, somewhere. Most common is Love, but not prounonced like the English Word.
How do folks pronounce Nils? I’ve heard it two ways.
Like “Neels”, like in “feels”, but with a little shorter “ee”.
Many of these names are from other countries.
Thanks for the comment, Julie! The names in the list are the “most popular” in Sweden, not to confuse with “originating from Sweden”. Original Swedish names will be mentioned in an upcoming blog post.
